The Defense Department has expanded its programs aimed at gathering and analyzing intelligence within the United States, creating new agencies, adding personnel and seeking additional legal authority for domestic security activities in the post-9/11 world.
The moves have taken place on several fronts. The White House is considering expanding the power of a little-known Pentagon agency called the Counterintelligence Field Activity, or CIFA, which was created three years ago. The proposal, made by a presidential commission, would transform CIFA from an office that coordinates Pentagon security efforts -- including protecting military facilities from attack -- to one that also has authority to investigate crimes within the United States such as treason, foreign or terrorist sabotage or even economic espionage.
The Pentagon has pushed legislation on Capitol Hill that would create an intelligence exception to the Privacy Act, allowing the FBI and others to share information gathered about U.S. citizens with the Pentagon, CIA and other intelligence agencies, as long as the data is deemed to be related to foreign intelligence. Backers say the measure is needed to strengthen investigations into terrorism or weapons of mass destruction.
The proposals, and other Pentagon steps aimed at improving its ability to analyze counterterrorism intelligence collected inside the United States, have drawn complaints from civil liberties advocates and a few members of Congress, who say the Defense Department's push into domestic collection is proceeding with little scrutiny by the Congress or the public.

In fact, indigenous people have offered such a model; since 1970 they have marked the fourth Thursday of November as a Day of Mourning in a spiritual/political ceremony on Coles Hill overlooking Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts, one of the early sites of the European invasion of the Americas.
Not only is the thought of such a change in this white-supremacist holiday impossible to imagine, but the very mention of the idea sends most Americans into apoplectic fits -- which speaks volumes about our historical hypocrisy and its relation to the contemporary politics of empire in the United States.
That the world's great powers achieved 'greatness' through criminal brutality on a grand scale is not news, of course. That those same societies are reluctant to highlight this history of barbarism also is predictable.
But in the United States, this reluctance to acknowledge our original sin -- the genocide of indigenous people -- is of special importance today. It's now routine -- even among conservative commentators -- to describe the United States as an empire, so long as everyone understands we are an inherently benevolent one. Because all our history contradicts that claim, history must be twisted and tortured to serve the purposes of the powerful.
One vehicle for taming history is various patriotic holidays, with Thanksgiving at the heart of U.S. myth-building. From an early age, we Americans hear a story about the hearty Pilgrims, whose search for freedom took them from England to Massachusetts. There, aided by the friendly Wampanoag Indians, they survived in a new and harsh environment, leading to a harvest feast in 1621 following the Pilgrims first winter.

Iraqi female detainees have been illegally detained, raped and sexually violated by United States military personnel. Women who stay at home in traditional roles are more likely to be imprisoned as bargaining chips by US troops seeking to pressurize male relatives, according to the New Statesmen (UK)[1]. In December 2003, a woman prisoner, \'Noor\', smuggled out a note stating that US guards at Abu Ghraib had been raping women detainees and forcing them to strip naked. Several of the women were now pregnant.[2] The classified enquiry launched by the US military, headed by Major General Antonio Taguba, has confirmed the note by \'Noor\' and that sexual violence against women at Abu Ghraib took place. Among the 1,800 digital photographs taken by US guards inside Abu Ghraib there were, according to Taguba's report, images of naked male and female detainees; a male Military Police guard \'having sex\' with a female detainee; detainees (of unspecified gender) forcibly arranged in various sexually explicit positions for photographing; and naked female detainees.[3] The Bush administration has refused to release photographs of Iraqi women prisoners at Abu Ghraib, including those of women forced at gunpoint to bare their breasts (although these have been shown to Congress). The Spread of Islam
From the oasis cities of Makkah and Madinah in the Arabian desert, the message of Islam went forth with electrifying speed. Within half a century of the Prophet's death, Islam had spread to three continents. Islam is not, as some imagine in the West, a religion of the sword nor did it spread primarily by means of war. It was only within Arabia, where a crude form of idolatry was rampant, that Islam was propagated by warring against those tribes which did not accept the message of God--whereas Christians and Jews were not forced to convert. Outside of Arabia also the vast lands conquered by the Arab armies in a short period became Muslim not by force of the sword but by the appeal of the new religion. It was faith in One God and emphasis upon His Mercy that brought vast numbers of people into the fold of Islam. The new religion did not coerce people to convert. Many continued to remain Jews and Christians and to this day important communities of the followers of these faiths are found in Muslim lands.
Moreover, the spread of Islam was not limited to its miraculous early expansion outside of Arabia. During later centuries the Turks embraced Islam peacefully as did a large number of the people of the Indian subcontinent and the Malay-speaking world. In Africa also, Islam has spread during the past two centuries even under the mighty power of European colonial rulers. Today Islam continues to grow not only in Africa but also in Europe and America where Muslims now comprise a notable minority.

Ibn Juzayy said in his dictionary of terms from the introduction to his tafsir:
'Taqwa's meaning is fear, clinging to obedience to Allah and abandoning disobedience to Him. It is the sum of all good.'
And in his commentary:
We will discuss taqwa in three sections.
First section:
Concerning its benefits derived from the Qur'an, and they are fifteen:
Guidance, because of His words 'guidance for the muttaqeen (the people of taqwa)';
Help because of His words 'Truly, Allah is with the people who have taqwa';
Close friendship [with Allah] because of His words, 'Allah is the close friend of the muttaqeen';
Love because of His words, 'Truly Allah loves the muttaqeen';
Covering over [of wrong actions] because of His words, 'If you have taqwa of Allah He will make for you a discrimination and He will cover over for you your wrong actions';
A way out from unhappiness, and provision from where one does not expect because of His words, 'Whoever has taqwa of Allah He will make a way out for him and provide him from where he does not expect';
Facilitation of affairs because of His words, 'Whoever has taqwa of Allah He will make ease for him in his affair';
Full covering over of wrong actions and magnification of rewards because of His words, 'Whoever has taqwa of Allah He will cover over his wrong actions and magnify a reward for him';
Acceptance of actions because of His words, 'Allah only accepts from the people of taqwa';
Success because of His words, 'Have taqwa of Allah in order that you might succeed';
Good news because of His words 'For them there is good news in this world and in the next';
Entrance into the Garden because of His words 'Truly, there are for the people of taqwa with their Lord Gardens of bliss';
Salvation from the Fire because of His words 'Then We will save the ones who had taqwa'.

This CD contains the audio recording in mp3 format of a course on the classical book of Jihad titled 'Mashari al-Ashwaq ila Masari al-Ushaaq' by Ibn an-Nuhaas who died in the Year 814AH (1411CE). It is an academic study of a classical book of Islamic knowledge which is widely studied in the Muslim World. This book was written almost six hundred years prior to the modern definition of the term 'Terrorism' and hence it is not a study of terrorism.
Windows Media Player, Real Player or any other software or device that plays mp3 audio, is required in order to listen to the lectures. There are twelve audio files, totalling some sixteen hours of listening material.

The erudite Muslim scholars who are blaming Muslims alone for their present miserable condition are no different than their forefathers who liked to argue about how many angels could dance on the head of a pin at a time when enemy was busy undermining every aspect of their life. As the war on Islam intensifies, the so-called Muslim scholars are turning their attention to the US just-war theory, currently among the more ridiculous attempts to make reality conform to pure lies and contingency fit into pre-packaged categories of good and evil.
Not that there’s anything intrinsically wrong with just-war theory. It does provide the only middle ground between promiscuous pacifism and totalistic crusading. It is just that the US is neither going for a just-war, nor is WMD, Saddam, Osama, or the Taliban its ultimate objective. Unfortunately, we are blind to the reality that the US is not even independent in making decisions to go to war. It might sound strange, but the only unjust cause and result of the post-September 11 war is Greater Israel.
Like Israel’s founding fathers, the present generation of Jewish leaders sees the existing area of Israel as a base for further conquest later. Like Weizmann, every Israeli leader considers Israel’s boundaries “skimpy”, believing, “The Kingdom of David was smaller; under Solomon it became an Empire. Who knows? C’est le premier pas qui compte” – it is the first step that counts.
The whole history of Zionism revolves around this dream. Israel’s leaders, who have gradually and progressively edged toward explicitly embracing this dream, have never decisively repudiated it. The gains of 1948 and 1967 were mere stepping-stones. Israel will keep expanding as long as it can.
